2025 GOBBINS CHALLENGE
4 MILES / 4 HOURS / 48 HOURS
Bret Buike, AKA Buckeyebret, will be participating in his 5th Goggins Challenge to help raise money for Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Mental Health, and Suicide Prevention. This is a 48-mile run, broken up into 4-mile sections. The first 4 miles will be right here at t3 performance on August 9, @9am. anyone is welcome to join part or all of the runs throughout the weekend!
Why is he doing this? Bret lost his Sister-In-Law Kate Holton to a drug overdose and his nephew Justice Buike to veteran suicide. “I didn’t take it very well, and I felt like I let them and my family down. I always thought it was something I should have been able to FIX, that there was something more that I could have and should have done!”
What Bret has learned is that there were valuable resources available to him, but he knew nothing about them. He doesn’t want other families or other people who are suffering to go without the help they need or not have access to the valuable resources they need that could save their life or the life of a loved one.
Bret’s goal is to raise awareness of those organizations and programs and to help remove the stigma of getting help and of asking for help by doing stuff, being open and honest about his own mental health journey, and raising funds to support organizations like Riveon Health in Lorain County, Ohio, and Recovery Resources in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The goal is to help other families and people in need, as well as honor those who he has lost and keep their memory alive.
Bret will complete the Goggins Challenge by running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours in honor of those who he and others have lost. He welcomes you share with him your stories of loss, of current struggle, and of success. Bret also appreciates any donations you can make. All funds will be split between Riveon Health and Recovery Resources, of which he is a board member of both, to help those in need in the communities we live in.
Bret will be running August 8-10th. He invites you to run with him along the way in person, virtually, or at 2 planned 5k events taking place that weekend as well: the Run for Recovery on August 9th and the Mind over Miles run on August 10th. See you soon!
“Thank you in advance for running with me, for your support, and your donations.” -Bret Buike
